The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented and motivated Laboratory Technician to play a key role in supporting data-driven decision-making in agriculture. Based in Saskatoon, this position is central to the laboratory’s day-to-day operations, ensuring accurate, reliable soil, plant, and water analysis that producers and agronomy professionals rely on to manage their operations effectively.
In this role, you will contribute directly to the quality and integrity of analytical results by preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, and maintaining high standards of accuracy, safety, and compliance. Your work will support both routine testing and broader soil health initiatives, helping advance sustainable and profitable agricultural practices across Western Canada.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced laboratory environment and bring a strong sense of ownership, attention to detail, and commitment to quality. Whether you are early in your laboratory career or looking to continue building hands-on technical expertise, this role offers meaningful exposure to agricultural science and applied laboratory work.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Preparation and Analysis
- Prepare soil, water, and plant tissue samples for analysis employing grinding, measuring, extraction procedures.
- Conduct various routine tests and advanced analytical techniques to determine sample chemical, physical, and biological properties.
- Verify data and accurately report test results within the internal laboratory database in a timely and reliable manner.
Equipment, Quality, and Compliance
- Perform routine instrument maintenance, calibration, and basic troubleshooting to ensure accuracy and reliability of analytical results.
- Participate in quarterly Proficiency Testing Programs and support ongoing quality assurance initiatives.
- Assist nonconformance investigations and corrective and preventive action execution.
- Apply and uphold good laboratory practices and comply with all quality, safety, and environmental standard operating procedures.
Laboratory Operations Support
- Foster a safe and efficient lab environment by leading housekeeping, inventory management, and best practice initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall laboratory operations.
What You Bring
- A diploma or degree in chemistry, soil science, environmental science, food science, or a related field.
- Previous laboratory experience is an asset, but not required.
- The ability to work independently while managing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfort working in loud environments for extended periods of time.
- A strong attention to detail and a clear commitment to accuracy and data quality.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.

The Opportunity
This is a key front-end role within the laboratory, serving as the first and last point of contact for all incoming samples. The Sample Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring that every soil, plant, and water sample entering the lab is properly received, documented, and prepared for analysis, supporting the accuracy, traceability, and integrity of laboratory results.
In this role, you will work closely with laboratory staff and clients to manage sample intake, resolve documentation issues, and ensure samples move efficiently through the laboratory workflow. You will also support customer invoicing and contribute to maintaining organized, safe, and compliant laboratory operations.
The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and follow-through matter. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys structured work, customer interaction, and being a central part of day-to-day laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Intake and Coordination
- Receive, inspect, sort, label, and log incoming soil, plant, and water samples.
- Verify sample condition, documentation, and completeness upon receipt.
- Ensure accurate data entry and maintain full sample traceability within laboratory systems.
Client Communication and Invoicing
- Communicate with clients regarding incomplete paperwork, discrepancies, or sample condition concerns.
- Support the customer invoicing process and ensure billing information is accurate and complete.
Laboratory Operations Support
- Lead safety and efficiency in the receiving area through housekeeping, organization, and inventory management.
- Comply with all internal quality, safety, and environmental standard operating procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall laboratory operations.

This position focuses on maintaining sustainable sample throughput, accuracy, and traceability across key stages of the laboratory workflow.
In this role, you will be responsible for grinding dried samples, supporting sample receiving and preparation activities, and ensuring materials, consumables, and work areas are organized and ready to support analytical testing. Your work directly contributes to the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results and helps keep the lab running safely and efficiently.
This position is well suited for someone who enjoys hands-on, structured work and takes pride in consistency, organization, and quality in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
